Some time ago, I posted some miscellaneous cellphone pictures that had been taken on my old cell phone. Now that I have a new smartphone, with a (slightly) higher resolution camera, it seems lots more pictures get taken. And most of them not by me.

Actually, my Little One, “Abbie the Artist,” has been taking quite a shine to the camera. Her artwork, of course, has greatly improved since I last posted some of it three years ago. She says she thinks in pictures, which sounds like a good name for a photo-memoir… or at least a good name for another blog post. (Stay tuned.)

You can tell she’s artistic, because she dyed the ends of her hair purple. And then started to complain when they faded to pink… -ish.

One of the quip-hits from an ebook I’m putting together for Read-an-ebook week, Catnapping for a Living: Humorous Sketches and Tails (because I don’t have enough time to think of a better title):

“Tomolok the Romulan is dead now, you know. But he’ll always be G’Kar to me. I am such a geek.”

And if you don’t get that, don’t worry: it just means you’re normal.

So anyhow, this past weekend, my brother pulled out of my parents’ basement the old Star Trek: The Next Generation Trivia Game. Yes, this thing actually existed, and yes, we actually tried to play it. (Update: And OMG, you can still get it. I guess they just couldn’t sell out of these back in the 90’s.) It was kind of a cross between Trivial Pursuit, Battleship, and the old, original Star Trek computer game from the 1970’s.

I was reminiscing on YouTube on my Commodore 64, the third computer I ever had. The first was a Sinclaire ZX81, with 1KB RAM, no sound, and black-and-white video. Then we upgraded that with a 16KB RAM pack.

Then my parents upgraded me the following Christmas to a Commodore VIC-20, which had a whole 4KB RAM, sound, and color graphics. At some point, we also got an 8KB RAM expansion cartridge, and I remember programming it in assembly code, using the Machine Code Monitor cartridge to debug my programs.

The following year, we got a Commodore 64, which had a whole 64KB RAM—more than any other computer at the time—and new sound and graphics chips that were trés kewl. The Commodore 64 is unique in my memory, because I not only remember programming it, I also remember playing games on it, including a number of the games featured in this video:
